2015 Okteenerfest Wrapup

Thank you to all the attendees, sponsors, and visitors to Okteenerfest 2015!

The weather was absolutely perfect, the driving was incredible, the socializing was fantastic, the people were friendly, and  the cars were 914s!

With over 60 registered 914s and 100+ attendees, this year’s Okteenerfest easily doubled the numbers of the original event held in 2013. Among the usual 1.7, 1.8 and 2.0 914s, there were a number of factory sixes, conversion sixes, and LS-power plants drool over. Some of the rare and unique 914s on display included two M-471 optioned 914-6s, the Max Moritz #19 racer, and a few racers from Black Forest Racing.

Plans for 2016 have already begun so be sure to check back for more info as it is made available. You cansign up for the email list for the latest info sent directly to your inbox.

The Car Show will be Peoples Choice judging. There will be three classes: Stock, Improved and Modified. Again, this is not a concours or show event, it’s a driving event so there is less emphasis on “Q-tipping” your car than some events.

  • Stock will be as noted – stock. Minor modifications can be made (radio, wheels, etc) but basically a stock car.
  • Improved: Must be street legal, all basically Porsche parts
  • Modified: Full race cars and conversions with other non-Porsche power plants (V8, Subie, etc)

Depending on the number of cars in each class, we will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, PLUS an overall People’s Choice award.  Classes will be at the discretion of the event Chairs and all decisions are final…but they do take bribes… :)

Okteenerfest 2015 – Banner Elk, NC

Okteenerfest 2015: 914-6 GT – the Giant Killers

September 17-20 in Banner Elk, NC.

web914GTThis year’s honored model is the 914-6 GT in celebration of the 1-2-3 Marathon de la Route (86 hours of Nürburgring) and other wins in 1970. Whether you have a real -6 GT, an original -6 converted to GT specs, or a -4 “tribute” GT with flares and big tires, they are all welcome at Okteenerfest. Join other 914 owners in their more mundane versions of Porsche’s street-legal go-kart for some fantastic driving, plenty of socializing, a bit of showing off, and a truckload of give-aways.

After two years being held in the Smokies of east Tennessee, we have moved the event east into the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. There are so many awesome roads in this region it would take days to drive them all. We have selected a route for Friday’s day drive that includes not only a ton of twisties, sweepers, and ear-popping elevation changes but plenty of stopping points to get out, stretch, and enjoy the scenic splendor of the mountains.

With this new location, we hope our friends from west of the Mississippi will still join us while at the same time bringing in new attendees from north and east. If you have not been to an Okteenerfest in the past, mark this one on your calendar. With a growth of over 65% in both attendees and 914s present from 2013 to 2014, we expect 2015 to be HUGE!

For quickest access to information as it becomes available, join the Okteenerfest mailing list or LIKE us on Facebook

In addition to the driving, Okteenerfest will feature plenty of good eating, an awards ceremony, tons of give-aways from the most awesome vendors, a Peoples Choice Car Show, and some of the nicest people you will ever meet gathered in a single place

Okteenerfest will be hosted this year by the Best Western Mountain Lodge in Banner Elk, NC.
